Description:

North America, United States, ca. 1920s CE. A whimsical wooden side table, boasting traditional tramp art characteristics having been constructed from wooden spools that decorate the legs and peripheries, all enveloped in a rich stain of chocolate brown. Standing atop 4 short legs, the flat, square top supports a towering stand that rises from its center. Popular from the 1870s to 1940s, tramp art utilized discarded pieces of wood, such as cigar boxes or shipping crates and carved them with simple tools like pocketknives. Pieces like these are a powerful reminder that "art" is not just something created by a professional, but that anyone of any age or socioeconomic status can create something of aesthetic value. Size: 10.3" W x 22.4" H (26.2 cm x 56.9 cm)
