Description:

Europe, Berlin, Germany, 1915 CE. This is an antique globe made by Peter J. Oestergaard Verlag (Publishing Company) fom Berlin. The side of the globe says "Oestergaard's Globus: DURCH ALLE WELT" meaning, "all of the world". This is a terrestrial table covered in fascinating details for those interested in historical geography. It shows oceanic currents and shipping routes, emphasizing the importance of sea power during the time it was made -- one imagines that a modern globe would show air routes instead. It also shows railway lines, cable lines, and the Great Wall of China. The meridian half circle is engraved in brass on one side. Size: 25" H x 14" W (63.5 cm x 35.6 cm).
