North America, United States, New York, ca. 1913 CE. BAL 11947; Sisson & Martens, p. 73. Containing a color frontispiece by George Harper, the book is covered in its original orange fabric with an illustration also by George Harper in violet, blue, light orange, and cream on the front cover. Described as "a road novel 50 years before Kerouac," these 530 pages tell the story of Billy and Saxon Roberts, a working-class couple who are struggling laborers in Oakland, California that leave the city life behind in search of suitable farmland to own in Sonoma Valley. The novel is thought to reflect London's loss of hope in socialism and growing interest in scientific farming. Size: 5.5" L x 1.4" W x 7.6" H (14 cm x 3.6 cm x 19.3 cm)

Born John Griffith Chaney, Jack London was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist who became one of the first American authors to gain international celebrity status. Considered an innovator of science fiction, London was a passionate advocate of unionization, workers' rights, and socialism. He is most famous for writing "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang," both set in the Klondike Gold Rush which London joined at the age of 21 in 1897.
