Native American, Northeastern United States/ Canada, Iroquois people, ca. 1910 CE. A whimsical wall hanging with storage pockets for holding matches, beaded with glass and sequins on a beige cotton over a stiff paperboard frame. This is a decorative piece with tassels, and a strand handle for suspension, and the year "1910" on the front. Iroquois women turned to the traditional skill of quill and newer glass bead working as a livelihood for tourists that wanted unique souvenirs and novelty items. Size (w/ tassels): 12" L x 5.5" W (30.5 cm x 14 cm)
