A beautiful ex-voto painting depicting a struggle between a young man and a rabid dog in the foreground, set before the pilgrimage site of the Baroque cathedral or basilica of San Juan de los Lagos (1732) atop an impressionistically painted hillside, where the faithful come to pay homage to the image of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos. Finely painted in oil on tin with gold leaf embellishments at the corners and a narrative beneath the scene that translates, "On October 17, 1908 a rabid dog bit Jesus Dias and he couldn't find a remedy for his bite. He invoked Our Lady of San Juan of the Lakes for relief and as thanks for the great miracle he presents this retablo." Size: 14" x 10". Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA.
