East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. An interesting brass box inlaid with a 1908 Chinese Chihli dollar or "Silver Dragon" coin commemorating the 34th year of Guangxu (Kuang Hsu), the 11th emperor of the Qing Dynasty. The coin is inlaid in a circular lidded box and the coin's reverse face is visible on the interior lid. These coin containers were popular for use as inkpad holders and interestingly this type of large coin was inspired by the Spanish dollars and Mexican Pesos circulating around the East Asia due to the colonization of the Philippines.
