A first edition and first print book of "Letters of Hugh Earl Percy from Boston and New York 1774-1776" edited by Charles Knowles Bolton and published by Charles E. Goodspeed in Boston in 1902. Bound in brown leather and light blue hardboard with gilt decoration along the spine, the codex is comprised of 88 gilt-edged pages of 33 historically important letters by Lieutenant General Hugh Percy, Second Duke of Northumberland FRS - an officer in the British army during the first portion of the American Revolutionary War - to numerous persons including his father, Reverend Thomas Percy, and General Edward Harvey. These letters detail accounts of the battles of Lexington, Concord, Bunker Hill, Long Island, and White Plains. A portrait of General Hugh Percy engraved by S. L. Smith serves as the frontispiece to this historic text. Size: 6.8" L x 0.6" W x 8.3" H (17.3 cm x 1.5 cm x 21.1 cm)
