Description:

Native American, Northeastern United States New York / Canada, Ontario, Iroquois people, ca. 1890s to 1900s CE. A beaded cloth whimsey in the shape of a Victorian ladies' heeled boot. The cloth is tan velvet and cotton, with a shallow pocket in the ankle opening, a suspension cord to hang as a wall decoration, and the rest is densely stuffed with sawdust. Iroquois women turned traditional sewing skills into a livelihood, and a robust cottage industry sprung up around tourist attractions such as Niagara Falls and other sites near Native communities. These whimsical beaded pieces were sold as unique souvenirs and novelty items. Size: 12" L x 7" W (30.5 cm x 17.8 cm)
