Europe, Italy, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. In a word, WOW! A sizeable goblet that is beautifully and quite extensively decorated. On the tondo is Hercules wielding a club and wearing his Nemean lion cloak with a faun from whom he has emerged victorious lying on the ground, set in a marvelous hilly landscape with deciduous trees. Surrounding them is a colorful border, including a wide upper register with running triangular motifs adorned by stylized visages followed by register of red bands flanking a dotted blue-on-blue band. The exterior presents putti (one on each side) amidst floral vines - all in red, gold, blue, and white - and blue on green serpentine handles emerging from the mouths of winged gargoyle-like visages of gold, red, and blue. Size: 15" W x 12.875" H (38.1 cm x 32.7 cm)
The stem complements the body of the piece with similarly brilliant, almost jewel-like tin glazes of rosy red, cobalt, cornflower blue, champagne, and white embellishing the slender form with linear, dotted, and tassel motifs as well as a band of leaves around the base.
Accompanied by tag that says 18th c. European ca. 1700 to 1740, but it may date to the 19th century as part of the Baroque or Renaissance revival periods.

- Condition: Minor wear/abrasions to periphery of base, but the piece stands well. Impression, perhaps a stamped makers mark in the form of a flower, on one handle. A few minor spalls and scuffs, but appears to be overall excellent. If any repairs/restoration these are incredibly well done and difficult to discern.
