Polynesia, Tonga, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A handsome coconut shell cup for the consumption of kava, a ritual drink in the region. This particular example is old enough to have attained a pretty silver iridescence on its interior. An old museum label reading, "Kava bowls for spirit drinking" is on one side. Size: 4.5" W x 2" H (11.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
