Central Asia, Tibet, 18th century CE. A beautiful opium pipe made from yak horn furnished/adorned with heavy silver (77% silver) mountings that have been finely engraved (hand chased) with decorative motifs perhaps representing smoke plumes or foliage and also inlaid with two pieces of red coral. Coral, imported from Venice, was among the most coveted materials in ancient Tibet, serving as ornament, jewelry, and even currency. An elegant example with quality engraving and silver mounts. Silver quality: 77%. Size: 15.375" L x 2.25" H (39.1 cm x 5.7 cm); 3.375" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.
