Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A beautiful idol statue of Lord Krishna and the mother figure Yashoda, hand-carved from human bone. Yashoda is nude, standing upright on an integral base, holding the infant Krishna on her left hip. Although nude, she wears ornate jewelry and ear ornaments with her hair pulled back atop her head. A tender depiction of the mighty god as a child and his foster mother, although when juxtaposed against the reason they were brought together it is a rather grim story: Krishna was taken from him family and raised by Yashoda in secret to protect the deity from his murderous uncle, King Kansa. The use of human bone may be morbid to Western cultures, but in Tantric belief bone imbues power since person's karmic force still resides within their remains. Size: 1.25" L x 0.75" W x 2.5" H (3.2 cm x 1.9 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.
