Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 18th century CE. Exceptional gilded repousse copper plaque featuring a snow lion in full profile and high raised relief. A large example once adorning a shrine or temple, the snow lion is striding to the left, head turned back over its left shoulder with bared fangs, bushy mane and eyebrows. Lion raised from a single sheet of copper, fire gilded with added painted features primarily in red and green. Size: 13.5" L x 8" H (34.3 cm x 20.3 cm)
