Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand or Cambodia, ca. 1750 to 1900 CE. A large wooden statue of a seated Buddha with traces of a gilded surface. He sits in a meditative pose upon a tall lotus pedestal, wearing simple robes, and presenting traditional traits such as a rounded topknot ushnisha and elongated ears. The ushnisha has a shallow cavity on the top, as if it once contained an additional ornament. One hand rests in his lap, while the other touches the ground, symbolizing the earth witness mudra. His legs are crossed in a double lotus pose. His head contains traces of the gilding that once covered the statue, but the exposed wood has developed a beautiful dark patina. This Buddha is a beautiful devotional piece that was certainly part of a shrine or temple. Size: 9.125" L x 8" W x 19" H (23.2 cm x 20.3 cm x 48.3 cm)
