Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A lovely mold-cast brass depiction of the Buddha seated atop a tiered triangular throne with rounded corners. The Buddha sits in the lotus position with hands in the Bhumisparsa (or Subduing Mara / "Earth Witness") mudra and wears a thigh-length robe with a strap over his left shoulder. His sensitive visage is composed of downturned almond-shaped eyes beneath thin, curved brows, a slender nose, full lips with indented corners, full cheeks and a puffy chin, and thin ears with elongated lobes. His coiffure is arranged in rows of curled hair nodes which encircle a flaming ushnisha in the center. Size: 5.7" W x 8.25" H (14.5 cm x 21 cm).

  • Condition: Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, minor nicks to base, hands, body, and head, with small loss to tip of ushnisha, and light fading to some finer details. Nice earthen deposits within recessed areas and beneath base, and great patina throughout.
