South Asia, Sri Lanka, Sinhalese culture, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A steel and brass dagger known as a piha keatta, the handle covered with elephant ivory and a chased silver pommel cap. Throughout are intricate scrolling foliate Sinhalese style motifs - these were luxurious knives that were fit for Maharajas to bestow and receive as gifts. Size: 10.25" L x 1" W (26 cm x 2.5 cm); blade only: 6.125" L x 1" W (15.6 cm x 2.5 cm)

  • Condition: Patina and dark toning to steel, areas of green oxidation to brass. Iron nail rivet on ivory has dark oxidation and stable pressure fissures. Yellow patina to ivory. Overall great condition.
