Description:

Spain, Colonial period, ca. 1750 CE. Glazed tiles depicting heraldic shields were made by Spanish potters from the Renaissance period onward; their skill was such that they also exported their tiles to northern Italy. This one is from later in the period, but the artwork is still fine, full of color and with engaging details. The towers and ship are particularly well-rendered. This may have originally been a floor tile, but is now framed (frame included). Size: 12-3/4" tall, 10-1/4" wide, and 1-1/2" deep. Provenance: Ex-private M. Sarkisian collection, Denver, CO acquired before 1950. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #110063
