Description:

Western Europe, Spain, ca. mid to late 18th century CE. A lovely iron, wood, and steel escopeta rifle used primarily on the frontiers of North America. The flintlock (or miquelet) mechanism has an adjustable flint housing behind an articulated striking plate, and the curved trigger is housed within a semicircular guard. The forestock and Catalan-style backstock are carved from a single piece of hardwood, and a leather grip wraps around the midsection. The octagonal barrel gradually smooths into a cylindrical form near the muzzle, and several illegible maker's marks are shown atop the back near the sight. Size: 48.25" L (122.6 cm).
