Description:

New World, Spanish Colonial period, ca. 18th century CE. A handsome dark wood table, round, supported on four rectangular legs. The legs are held in place by a pair of crossed bars on the underside of the table, each supported using the mortise and tenon method, which is associated with 18th century continental European or colonial European (not British) furniture. The legs are decorated with simple waved carving, while the round exterior is decorated with incised "X" and linear motifs to form a regular border. The interior is undecorated and would once have been covered with another piece of wood to form a regular surface. The method of construction of the piece is evident from its exposed interior. Size: 31" W x 11.25" H (78.7 cm x 28.6 cm)
