Description:

New World, Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. late 18th century CE. A repousse silver bowl standing on three attached silver legs in the form of feet. The bowl has two round, concave bosses, formed by casting, immediately next to one another, giving it an asymmetrical appearance. The front of the bosses are repousse floral patterns. On the interior of the bowl, leading to the lower center of the bosses, are raised repousse dots in a pattern that looks like strings of pearls converging. This unusual bowl was probably used for holding holy water during a baptism. Size: 6.5" W x 3.7" H (16.5 cm x 9.4 cm); (269.3 g)
