Description:

North America, Mexico / Southwestern United States, Spanish Colonial period, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A petite pistol with an iron flintlock firing mechanism and a slender ram rod housed beneath the barrel. The thick handle has a flared end capped with a brass medallion, and the narrow trigger is protected by an ornate trigger guard. The back half of the barrel is octagonal in form and smooths into a cylinder along the front half. This style of flintlock pistol was used by soldiers assigned to the Spanish Missions and presidios (forts) that dotted the landscape of what is today northern Mexico, the American Southwest, and the California coast. Size: 8.75" L (22.2 cm).
