South America, Peru, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A beautiful necklace composed of dozens of colorful glass beads as well as eight brass religious medallions with important figures from Christianity. The glass beads are presented in spherical, tubular, faceted, and seed forms in a myriad of vibrant colors, and hanging from the center is a slender, conical snail shell. Strung in modern times, this is a fabulous and wearable necklace of an elegant form! Size (necklace): 33" L (83.8 cm); (shell pendant): 1.4" L x 0.75" W (3.6 cm x 1.9 cm).

Provenance: ex-Ruth B. collection, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, acquired around 1950
