Lot 171C
South America, Peru, ca. 18th Century CE. A wonderful and colorful altar - also called a sagrario - made of gesso and gilding over wood. Twin cathedral doors open to display whatever religious object - Santos, Cristo, etc - one would have placed in the niche, with the entire front liberally decorated in ornate green, red and gold colors in floral and geometric patterns. Truly breath-taking with the exposed wooden areas showing a deep patination! Size: 21" L x 29" W x 38" H (53.3 cm x 73.7 cm x 96.5 cm).
