Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A lovely brass relief plaque of rectangular form featuring Christ as Blessed Silence based on Byzantine Angel of the Great Council in which Christ is portrayed as Christ Emmanuel. Crowned by an 8-pointed halo, the holy savior is surrounded by a decorative border of 18 tondos of God and the saints amongst floral motifs. Liberal remains of a Cyrillic inscription frame the entire group. Size (plaque): 4.9" W x 5.8" H (12.4 cm x 14.7 cm); (modern frame): 13.1" W x 15.1" H (33.3 cm x 38.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
