Portuguese Colonial, Latin America, Brazil, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A wonderful gilt wooden santo depicting either Our Lady of the Holy Rosary or Our Lady of Mount Carmel and featuring the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, each with inlaid glass eyes. The Blessed Virgin Mary stands atop an elegant stand painted to look like marble, as well as a trio of cherub heads, her slender body draped in billowing gilt robes. She blesses with her right hand as she holds the infant Christ in her left, who is attached via a metal hook and grasps a globus cruciger. Size: 5.5" L x 8.7" W x 21.9" H (14 cm x 22.1 cm x 55.6 cm)
