Description:

Western Europe, France, Neoclassical Period, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A fine stamp cast from 92% silver in a tall, octagonal form with the statement 'L'amoure, Nous, Unit' ("Love Unites Us") surrounding a pair of clasped, shaking hands. The hands are further enclosed above and below with six-petaled flowers and two additional flowers with lengthy, leafy stems, and the periphery of the stamp is impressed with a program of petite cruciform motifs. Secured within a narrow cylinder protruding from the back of the stamp is a piriform handle carved from mother-of-pearl that exhibits incised parallel striations, a flat base, and an incredibly lustrous surface. Size (stamp): 0.6" W x 0.7" H (1.5 cm x 1.8 cm); (handle): 2.2" L (5.6 cm); quality of silver: 92%.
