Description:

India, ca. 18th century CE. This is a carving from a found piece of wood -- maybe driftwood or something similar -- showing the goddess Yakshi (also known as Yakshini). The figure has the voluptuous form, especially in the hips and stance, of all depictions of the goddess. My favorite detail of this piece is that it stands atop a driftwood base with fine wood grains highly visible. Size: 15.25" L x 4.75" W (38.7 cm x 12.1 cm)
