Description:

South Asia, India, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. An endearing wooden sculpture of Lord Krishna being held by his foster-mother Yashoda. Nude, Yashoda stands in the triple-bend or tribunga position as she rests Krishna on her hip, her voluptuous curves and voluminous bosom accentuating both her femininity and fertility. A tender depiction of the mighty god as a child and his foster mother, although when juxtaposed against the reason they were brought together it is a rather grim story: Krishna was taken from him family and raised by Yashoda in secret to protect the deity from his murderous uncle, King Kansa. Size: 3" W x 6.4" H (7.6 cm x 16.3 cm)
