Description:

South Asia, southern India, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A striking dagger or khanjarli featuring a recurved steel blade and an ungulate bone shoulder, hilt, and pommel, adorned with 11 applied silver flowerettes. Most khanjarli were made during the 17th and 18th centuries. This example lacks a knuckle bow, a standard feature on later examples, indicating that this piece was likely made earlier and is more closely related to the chilanum from which the khanjarli design derives. Size w/ Hilt: 9.4" L x 2.1" W (23.9 cm x 5.3 cm); of blade: 5.3" L x 1.3" W (13.5 cm x 3.3 cm); silver quality: ranges from 37.95 to 91.25%
