Central Asia, India, Bastar, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A beautiful brass earth goddess figure from the Orissa region of east-central India. She stands upon an openwork pedestal holding attributes in each hand. Her regal presence is scantily clad with much of her curvaceous form revealed. This said she does wear an elegant belt with a long swathe of fabric embellished with diamond motifs covering her privates and running down the front of her legs. Her chest is bare save a sash crossing over her left breast and forming a collar that runs shoulder to shoulder, as well as a bold spiral ornament over her right breast. Finally, she wears a pointed crown and her beautiful visage delineated with delicate features is framed by a mandorla/halo-like surround. Size: 4.75" H (12.1 cm)

  • Condition: Expected age wear with some minute losses to periphery of mandorla/halo. Slight indentations to the pedestal, but it still stands well. Brass has developed a rich patina over time.
