Description:

Oceania/Polynesia, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 18th century CE. A fascinating dagger carved from a solid piece of hardwood, with a hole drilled through its center, at its widest point. The handle tapers to a flat butt, while the blade narrows to a point opposite it. The surface is highly burnishes to a smooth brown-red. This weapon is made from kauila wood, a hardwood traditionally used to make weapons, now sadly endangered because of the importation of cattle to the Hawaiian Islands - the animals eat the seedlings. Size: 13.5" W x 1.45" H (34.3 cm x 3.7 cm); 4.45" H (11.3 cm) on included custom stand.
