Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 18th century CE. A beautiful 59.6% gold ring of wearable form with a thick shank and an ovoid carnelian intaglio set within the form-fitting bezel. Incised atop the carnelian is a scene depicting 2 male figures in armor as they flank a tall column; a swan or duck-headed boat ornament as well as part of a boat are visible behind one figure along the righthand side. Size (intaglio): 0.53" L x 0.75" W x 0.13" H (1.3 cm x 1.9 cm x 0.3 cm); (ring setting): 0.61" L x 0.88" W x 0.89" H (1.5 cm x 2.2 cm x 2.3 cm); gold quality: 59.6% (equivalent to 14K+); weight: 4.7 grams; US ring size: 7.5
