Description:

Western Europe, probably Germany, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. An intimidating pike axe with an iron head mounted on a short wooden handle. The head consists of a curved axe blade with a pointed spike on the top and a spike forming the butt end of the axe. The tang extends into the wooden handle with an iron band and rivets securing the blade in place. The hefty handle tapers to a rounded knob. This deadly weapon was used for cutting, stabbing, and punching through armor. These were often weapons for soldiers on foot and sometimes used for in naval warfare for boarding ships. Size: 32.5" L x 10.75" W (82.6 cm x 27.3 cm)
