Description:

Europe, Italy or France, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. An elegant pottery vessel with a columnar body, a flared base, and a flared upper portion, beautifully decorated with tin glaze in blue and white. The collared neck and thick rolled rim are left unpainted, as are the tops of the knocker-like handles, which also feature thick iron rings secured via iron loops. Each of these handles is in the form of a lion with a large crest projecting from its top. The entire body, aside from the handles, has been painted with a hard, opaque white glaze that serves as the background for delicately painted motifs in shades of blue. These depict butterflies, flowers, and vines, each with lovely detail. Size: 7.25" W x 14.25" H (18.4 cm x 36.2 cm)
