Description:

European (French or Italian) ca. 18th to 19th century. Finely cast via the lost wax process, a petite bronze statue of a female nude, perhaps Venus, the goddess of love, or a nymph devoted to Bacchus. The sculptor modeled this curvaceous figure so as to present a dynamic pose that begs the viewer to admire her from every angle. The female dramatically places her left hand over her breast and passionately cocks her head as if engaged in a sensual fantasy. Sculptors of the Rococo period created theatrical sculptures like this to convey erotic intimacies. In addition, this statue demonstrates an inherited Baroque taste for figures that imply a sequence of poses and appear to move through time and space. A mesmerizing bronze statue that probably once graced an elegant marble tabletop in a lavish Rococo salon. Size: 5.125" H (13 cm); 5.7" H (14.5 cm) on included custom stand.
