Description:

Western Europe, ca. 18th Century CE. A brass mortar and pestle with a cylindrical body flanked by two square handles. It sits on a flat base, the body flares to a wide rim, and fine concentric lines encircle the exterior. The pestle has knobbed ends and three ribs on the shaft center. Mortars and pestles such as this were used for grinding herbs and other medicinal ingredients. A solid piece of brass that endured rigorous use and is a wonderful example of European craftsmanship. Size: 6" W x 7.25" H (15.2 cm x 18.4 cm)
