Western Europe, England, ca. 18th century CE. A pretty and wearable onyx cameo set in a simple gold ring setting. The cameo has a nude woman embracing or frolicking around a herm, possibly a maenad and a satyr herm- a pair of horns seem to project from the forehead. A herm is a sculpted deity head protecting the household or doorways, and they were placed atop a rectangular column. Size of bezel setting: 0.92" L x 0.67" W (2.3 cm x 1.7 cm); band opening: US ring size 5; metal quality: 37.8% to 78% (equivalent to 9K+ to 18K+) gold, 12.1% to 18.5% silver, 9.8% to 22% copper; weight: 3.5 grams
