A print from a Dutch guide to the Middle East, this unsigned engraving on paper is titled in Dutch: "De Kabba, of Het Huis Gods Te Mecca" (The Kabba, or The House of God at Mecca), the upper left corner is marked "IV Deel" (part) and page number "399." Mecca and the religion of Islam was a source of great interest for Europeans in the 17th and 18th century, and travel manuals with visual guides were popular during this time for those Europeans traveling to the Middle East (the Ka'ba within the arcaded walls that was inaccessible to non-Muslims.)
