Description:

Western Europe, Holland / Netherlands, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A pretty hand-painted and glazed ceramic delftware dish in polychrome hues! The shallow basin is painted with an abstract scene of trees and floral motifs in bright blue, red, yellow, and green hues on a white field. The rim contains alternating foliage shapes of green and plum hues. Tin-glazed pottery in Europe was inspired by increasing trade with China, and the area around the city of Delft became particularly known for its wares. Usually we see blue on white glazes, and this polychrome dish is a vibrant example of Delftware! Size: 14" Diameter x 2" H (35.6 cm x 5.1 cm)
