Description:

Europe, The Netherlands, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. These two charming ceramic Delftware tiles with white and blue glaze have floral patterns on each of the four corners and central pastoral scenes. One features a country house and trees; the other presents sailboats along a riverbank or canal. Delftware developed in Antwerp and spread north into modern day Holland. It is characterized by the white glaze with blue oxide paint over a calcium-rich clay called marl. These are beautiful delftware examples with idyllic Dutch landscapes.
