Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th century CE. An impressive porcelain charger bowl with deep sides and a flared rim, decorated with a vibrant naturalistic setting and a bevy of quails. The central tondo depicts the birds amongst peony flowers, bamboo stalks, and under a pine tree. The interior walls have an intricate diapered patterning with blooming lotus flowers that surround the four reserves, each containing additional polychrome panels with quails. The alternating design of diapered pattern and quail motif repeats on the outside walls. The flat rim has a diapered crackle and flower pattern bordered by a black and white meander and edged in gold. The bottom is unglazed except for the center, an indented circle glazed white with a blue six-character mark for the Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795). This colorful bowl is truly delightful with vibrant hues and charming birds! Size: 15.75" W x 3" H (40 cm x 7.6 cm)
