East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Emperor, ca. 1735 to 1796 CE. A lovely pottery bowl known as a mei kui or rose-pink bowl, presenting a hemispherical body and a gently flared rim, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. Enveloped in a blush pink enamel on a rough surface reminiscent of an orange peel, the exterior of the dish is skillfully hand-painted with an abstract floral motif of scrolling vines and undulating striations. Alternatively, he interior boasts a shiny white surface and a pair of Chinese characters. Lustrous gilding embellishes the rim, while the base is inscribed with the mark of the Qianlong Emperor (1735 to 1796). Size: 6.8" Diameter x 3.1" H (17.3 cm x 7.9 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from at least 6 pieces with break lines visible. Minor chip to rim and another to foot. Expected pitting to interior and base with some staining to glaze. Otherwise, excellent with great remaining pigments and detail.
