Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A matching pair of pricket figural candlesticks, each in the form of a smiling attendant with one hand on the hip, dressed in highly detailed robes, and holding aloft a candle dish with a central spike (pricket) for securing the candle. The figures are crafted from solid brown lacquer over a wire frame and mounted on wood blocks, also covered in brown lacquer. This rare and unusual pair dates to approximately 1750–1850 and remains in remarkable condition, showing expected wear consistent with age. Size: 4" L x 3" W x 8.75" H (10.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 22.2 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired and restored. Legs, topknots, and arms on both are reattached and there is infill with new material to some break lines to fill in gaps. Hair line fissures are visible on both. Wax residue in the drip pans on both. Nice patina and craquelure to lacquer throughout. Inventory label on the side of one.
