Asian. Southeast Asia, Burma / Myanmar, ca. mid-late 18th century CE. A tall gilded wood statue of a seated Buddha, painted with a red base. The figure has a simple, large face and a tall, pointed ushnisha. Size: 3.75" L x 4.75" W x 14.8" H (9.5 cm x 12.1 cm x 37.6 cm)

This Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha mudra, with his right hand over the right knee reaching towards the ground and the palm inward and touching the throne. His left hand lies in his lap with the palm upright. This mudra represents the moment of his awakening, as he defeated the demon Mara, and claimed the earth as his witness to his enlightenment.
