Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma/Myanmar, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A cast-brass statue of Buddha seated in a full lotus position atop an integral plinth incised with linear and stippled motifs. Buddha sits with his hands in the Calling Earth to Witness mudra or Bhumisparsa with his left hand open with an upward-facing palm and his right hand downward that represents the moment just prior to attaining enlightenment. He wears incised garments as well as an ornate necklace, a floral crown with a circular frontal medallion and has a pair of wing-like projections flanking his conical flaming ushnisha. Fine layers of brown and green patina have developed across the figure, and the hollow base is sealed with a layer of plaster. Size: 7" W x 11.6" H (17.8 cm x 29.5 cm)
