Description:

Western Europe, probably England or Scotland, ca. 18th century CE. A beautiful brass signal cannon cast via the lost-wax (cire perdue) process. The cannon is mounted atop a forked swivel mount with a long pin, and has a lengthy barrel decorated with slender diamond-shaped motifs, a flared muzzle, and an integral ringed cascabel projecting from the back end. A petite ringed pan rests just in front of the cascabel, enabling a soldier to ignite the compacted gunpowder held within and thus firing the luminous signal flare into the sky. Custom wooden display mount included. Size: 14.1" L x 2.75" H (35.8 cm x 7 cm); 6.5" H (16.5 cm) on included custom stand.
