Description:

North America, United States, Colonial / Revolutionary War era, ca. 18th century CE. A lovely wooden spoon or ladle, known as a lovespoon, featuring a sizable, hemispherical bowl and a slanted handle that bends slightly in one area. The spoon's elegant profile is complemented by incised geometric and zigzag designs and a 5-pointed star, as well as a pair of openwork triangles. A lovespoon is a wooden spoon decoratively carved that was traditionally presented as a gift of romantic intent. The spoon is normally decorated with symbols of love, and was intended to reflect the skill of the carver. Due to the intricate designs, lovespoons are no longer used as functioning spoons and are now decorative craft items. Size: 7.6" L x 3.7" W x 2.5" H (19.3 cm x 9.4 cm x 6.4 cm)
