Description:

North America, USA, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A gorgeous Federal period, Chippendale mahogany mirror with a painted gilt frame and its original glass aged to a fantastic surface. The wooden sides of the mirror are carved into elegant, intricate scrolls and flames that form a handsome border around the large, rectangular mirror. Visitors to Colonial Williamsburg will likely have seen a mirror of this style, as it was popular amongst wealthier colonists and early Americans. The American Chippendale style, originating from London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale in the mid-1700s, was elegant and conservative compared to styles popular in Great Britain during the same time period. Size: 17.25" W x 31.2" H (43.8 cm x 79.2 cm)
