Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A gorgeous and wearable ring composed of 87% gold (equivalent to 20K+) with an ovoid emerald intaglio depicting Jupiter (Greek Zeus), the god of lightning and ruler of all other gods. Jupiter is shown seated in a throne while holding a handful of lightning bolts in his right hand and a slender spear in his left. The intaglio is set inside of a form-fitting bezel flanked with bulbous triangular adornments, and petite gold granules embellish the upper shank. Size (ring): 0.7" W x 0.75" H (1.8 cm x 1.9 cm); (intaglio): 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm); quality of gold: 87% (equivalent to 20K+); total weight: 3.9 grams; US ring size 4.5.
