North America, northeastern United States, Massachusetts, Boston, ca. 1899 CE. An American ceremonial sword made by G.W. Simmons Co. in Boston, Massachusetts, comprised of an iron blade with a brass scabbard and a brass and wood hilt. The blade boasts liberal remains of etched decoration with the inscription "U.S." as well as the name and location of the maker. Alternatively, the hilt presents a wooden grip, enveloped in a lustrous black pigment and incised with a spiraling striation down the body, as well as an upward-sweeping handguard, a slender knuckle guard with a relief eagle and 6 arrows, and a flared pommel. Additionally, the thin iron scabbard is embellished with brass bands of vegetal motif.
